MAKE
Overlooking the beautiful Tooting Bec Common this newly built development features four luxurious 4 and 6-bedroom houses accompanied by a Community Centre. Settled in a sensitive residential area this project needed to take the place of a derelict structure and create a connection between a long street of houses and the front of the Common while resolving challenges of spatial restrictions and time constraints.
CREATE
Understanding the local architectural vernacular was key to delivering a terrace of buildings that would sit comfortably in the Edwardian setting but avoid a feeling of replication. This involved an in-depth analysis of the styles and architectural forms on the road so the correct architectural detailing could be introduced, adding depth and intertest without mimicry.
LIVE
The materiality acknowledges the local context while adding contemporary cladding elements for the community centre along with articulated projecting brickwork. The 5 bed houses are designed to the highest level with paired back traditional features, tall floor to ceiling heights and excellent private amenity with open connections to the central living/ dining space.
